The 2nd SCAE World Cezve/Ibrik Championship 2010
The SCAE invites you to join the 2nd SCAE Cezve/Ibrik Championship during June 23-25th at SCAE Event 2010 at Olympia in London, UK
The SCAE embraces all coffee cultures and we see education, diversity and quality as our main goals. This also includes all brewing methods. If we take a look both into our coffee history, and into recent years consuming statistics we must admit that the wonderful indignant Turkish and Greek way of roasting, brewing and serving coffee has not received the attention it should. This is after all the most commonly used way of enjoying coffee in larger parts of Eastern Europe, The Middle East and North Africa. Here up to 85% of the coffee is enjoyed this way. With the large migration from these countries to others parts of especially Europe the art of making coffee with an Ibrik or in Turkish a Cezve is spreading.
In Copenhagen the SCAE therefore launched a trial run for a very different competition named after the pots used to brew coffee this way. The Cezve/Ibrik Competition. It was highly successful and the SCAE therefore now announce the first official world championship. Qualifying competitions are now being held in several countries, but where qualifying competitions can not be held the SCAE chapter can name a competitor. Where there are no SCAE chapter similar associations can approach the SCAE competition committee for accreditation
During 12 minutes the judges will be served 2 traditional coffees without additives of any kind. Then 2 coffees with spice and sugar, and finally 2 signature beverages. In this competition the atmosphere and the visual effects are as important as the taste of the beverage. The competitor is therefore allowed to bring an assistant on to the stage. The assistants will do the decorations, serve the coffees and help the competitor in any way. Just as in the Bocuse d’Or, the world Championship for chefs.
Scores are given in open judging as the competition unfolds by a set judges that concentrate on taste an another set that concentrate on the visual side.
